How to reduce condensation on your windows

Condensation is a phenomenon that occurs on a lot of windows during this time of year.

It may seem like just a small annoyance to some, but did you know that condensation can actually cause mould and mildew, triggering health issues in people with certain allergies?

Don’t fret – there are a number of ways to eliminate, or at least reduce, condensation in our homes.

First of all, ensuring your home has enough ventilation is key to fighting condensation. Certain rooms such as bathrooms and kitchens can get extremely humid, and condensation tends to form there often.

It helps if you crack open windows regularly, especially when showering, bathing or cooking. If you own an extractor fan, turn it on at opportune times.

It’s common knowledge that many households across the UK rely on radiators to dry clothes, thanks to our rainy climate. But did you know doing so contributes to condensation in our homes?

It is much better to peg your washing outside instead. Track the weather app and make the most of the sunny days to dry your clothes!

As condensation occurs when humid air hits a cold surface, waiting for your home to get cold before turning the heating on is not a wise idea.

Instead, you should try to keep your home at a consistent temperature. It is much better to heat your home at a constant low temperature than changing between two extremes.

If you have tried following our tips and condensation is still forming around your windows, you may have a problem with the performance of your current windows.

Single glazed windows are colder on the inside and therefore they attract condensation more than double or triple glazed windows do.
