Is A Composite Or UPVC Door The Perfect Front Door For Your Home?

Is A Composite Or UPVC Door The Perfect Front Door For Your Home?

All too often we overlook the importance of our front doors, something that we should never do when it’s so central to the appearance and security of our homes.

Action needs to be taken as a matter of urgency if your current door has lost its stylishness or it doesn’t feel as robust as it once did.

Speedy has many potential door replacements for you to have a look at and two of our premier collections are our UPVC doors and composite doors.

UPVC doors have been around long enough for most people to know what they are, but some won’t be as familiar with composite doors.

What is a composite door?

It gets its name from being manufactured from several materials, which are UPVC, foam, wood, and a GRP (Glass Reinforced Plastic) skin.

The wood grain effect throughout a composite door frame could persuade you that it is entirely composed from timber, but no traditional wooden door has the resilience, sturdiness, and weatherproofing of a composite door.

Composite doors are inherently strong and the Forté composite designs we have at Speedy take door strength to a new level.

The different components of a composite door

What makes a composite door different to a UPVC door?

UPVC doors are entirely constructed from plastic, rather than a mix of materials, and a composite door frame has a greater thickness (roughly around 44mm, with the average UPVC door having a 28mm frame).

There’s a higher cost involved to buy a composite door and that’s due to it utilising more than one material, so it justifies its price.

While a UPVC door doesn’t cost as much, it still promises an outstanding standard of thermal efficiency and security and overperforms for what you’ll pay for it.

What upkeep is necessary to clean composite and UPVC doors?

It will only be an occasional chore to clean the door frame, doing so every four months with a bucket filled with warm soapy water – refrain from using solvent based cleaners or anything abrasive.

Add lubricant to the locks, hinges, and if they need it, the handles and hardware, once a year so that they remain in good working order.

Regularly check for any debris finding its way into the threshold or drainage holes of the door, removing it so that water doesn’t form in the seals and potentially cause damage.
