How To Make Your Home Surroundings So Cosy For Christmas
In these sorts of conditions, there’s no place like home, and you can have all the fun of the fair in there during the festivities, whether it’s putting on your favourite Christmas films or tucking into multiple mince pies.
Cosiness is a must and aside from pulling on your fleecy Christmas pyjamas and snuggling up to a hot water bottle, you should add some festive touches that create a cosy feel.
Make your fireplace a Christmas centrepiece
We go to town with our Christmas trees, but why not do the same with your fireplace as it’s a big focal point in a house and a feature that we associate with warmth.
As you’d do on your front door, why not have a wreath displayed in the wall straight above your fireplace to draw attention to it.
Then you can add a garland to the mantel and express your love of Christmas with a message on top in lights that says ‘Merry Xmas’ or ‘Happy Holidays’.
Put fairy lights in used bottles and jars
Even in the run-up to Christmas, never mind just the big day itself, we tend to overindulge a little, which may mean you’re left with a few glass bottles and jars.
These bottles and jars could be used for decoration with the adding of fairy lights to them. To get the lights in a bottle, just drill a hole large enough for them at the bottom and feed them through.
To avoid having to plug them in and use energy, get battery-powered lights and then put them all around the house e.g. on windowsills and tables, to give it a pretty glow.
Have photos of past Christmases on display
Christmas is a special time of year, a time when lots of lasting memories are made, especially when you were a child.
You may have photographs of some of these treasured Christmases and rather than have them hidden away in a photo album, get them on show.
Some of your favourite pics could be turned into personalised baubles and snow globes or find something you can hang any old polaroids on for a wall display.
