Kitchen Extensions

Long gone are the days when British families would solely use their kitchens for just cooking and eating…

We find ourselves in the kitchen more nowadays than in our traditional living rooms, so it makes sense to give yourself a new multi-purpose kitchen setup. Speedy will dish up a kitchen that’s as fit for watching TV as it is for enjoying all of your breakfasts, lunches and dinners. It will be the first place you head for when returning home after a busy day at work, a great place to cook and catch-up with the family.

We’ll guide you through the buying process from start to finish...

Committing to a home extension is a big decision and with so much investment involved, it’s imperative that the finished extension offers you everything you want and more. Without question, it is a lot less stressful than moving house, particularly as Speedy is such an accomplished extension specialist, who is always on your side. Ahead of designing your extension, contemplate the following:

  • How much does an extension cost?
  • Will I need planning permission for my extension?
  • Building Regulations
  • How to design an extension
  • Building your extension
  • Heating and electrics

Whatever your house style and desires, Speedy will produce an extension that ticks all the relevant boxes.

We will happily customise the extension in any way you see fit. You get the final say on its configuration and size, and can also determine the positioning of the windows and doors.

Use this checklist to plan your extension and ensure you get the right solution...

Position – Would you like the extension to be located in a specific area of the house? Do you want it to be somewhat obscured from the neighbours? Is having a good view from the extension important to you? Once we have a firm idea of your thinking, we can then suggest the most appropriate windows, doors, hardware and roofing systems.

Function – What main purpose will the extension serve? Are you envisaging it as a play area for your children or do you want a bigger kitchen to cook in and chill out? The proposed functionality of an extension will influence the end shape of the structure. When you want maximum floor space, a square or rectangular design is the wisest configuration. An “L” shaped extension works well when you need a multi-purpose extension.

Aesthetics – You don’t want your new extension to go under the radar. It should stand out amongst other nearby houses and our extension designs don’t tend to go unnoticed. With our design background, we can create extensions with a traditional cottage feel or contemporary effect.

Site Access – It will be a huge help to us if the intended site for the extension is kept as clear as possible. There will be trucks and lorries arriving to drop off materials and items, and our tools need to be stored safely somewhere.

Demands on your boiler – Just remember that you will have an extra room that needs heating and you want to be sure that your current boiler can cope with that. Get it replaced beforehand if it can’t, and also look into underfloor heating.
