How To Introduce Colour Into Your Living Space

How to use colour to enhance your home

Colour can make your home feel alive!

When it’s lacking in colour, compounded by not receiving much natural light in winter, it can feel anything but alive.

If you could do with more colour indoors and outdoors at home, it isn’t a hard job establishing it, as we can outline to you now.

Colourful windows & doors

Don’t overlook the power of colour. You will have experienced times when colour has completely transformed your mood, or been inside rooms that are finished in a fashion that makes them feel way bigger than they actually are.

To inject colour into your living room, you could always choose a vibrant finish for any new windows and doors, or install a new type of window treatment – some patterned curtains or stunning blinds should work nicely.

Move away from a muted white, and gravitate towards warmer colours, such as a red hue – Mahogany being a good example. It will add warmth, which is just what you want in winter.

Colourful paint

You don’t need to be particularly skilled with a paintbrush to repaint things like an old set of drawers, TV stand or feature wall, something that will reinvigorate their appearance when done in a colour away from cream, magnolia or ivory.

Be wary of choosing a colour that’s too brash or two colours that are a total contrast to one another – not very often will you see canary yellow and sky blue work well together.

Have a long look at the colour wheel and see what kind of colours will nicely harmonise. Typically, these colours will be adjacent on the wheel, with the adjoining colours of blue, cyan and green proving this point.

Colourful accessories

Before making a long-term commitment to a certain colour scheme, experiment with the scheme you have in mind with soft furnishings e.g. cushions, rugs, blankets and throws.

It’s safer to do this than make wholesale changes and then come to the conclusion that you don’t actually like a scheme as much as you thought you would.
